I do think you've gone beyond "ralphing" all over the canvas. I'll pass the reading recommendations on. Did you know our classmate Chris Cahill spent 2 1/2 years in Antarctica while in the Seabees? He had some sage advice which I'll also be passing on!Ron Crouchhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02219746065611247696noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9504231.post-87609459595953078292011-08-18T11:45:49.166-05:002011-08-18T11:45:49.166-05:00Very cool! A couple of recommended reads: "The White Lantern" (which includes a fine essay on Antarctic exploration) by Evan Connell), "The Coldest March" by Susan Solomon, and "The Worst Journey in the World," by Apsley Cherry-Gerrard. Quicker and odder: "Encounters at the End of the World," the Werner Herzog "documentary."Dan Brekkehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03261150572253464576noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9504231.post-73859180016506081352011-04-07T11:17:38.989-05:002011-04-07T11:17:38.989-05:00You makey me a blog spot? Some nice work here bub and I know what you mean about the low point of a painting - I start out trance-channeling Vuillard or Fairfield Porter (now you know it's me, Jules!) and find I'm lucky if I look good enough for an elementary school project. They'd never done an event like this and it was a learning curve for them.

As to the thousands spent by Fort Worth South, Inc.: while they are a non-profit, they're *not* a charity. The FWSI website states among its primary goals:

a. Attract new residents and new residential development,
b. Support the growth of the district's existing businesses and institutions and
c. Attract new businesses to the Near Southside.

FWSI's board and members are comprised principally of developers and members of the medical industry. While a fun event, Arts Goggle is as much about keeping their property values up as it is the fine arts. We're just another coat of paint on someone's old building.

Finally, I spent a week and several hundred dollars getting art framed and in a condition to show (I dare say I'm not alone in this) -- this in addition to the time spent creating the work.

While it may have been free to you, the public, I'd hardly call it free for the artists.RCrouchhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14699673997355758837noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9504231.post-7759383676827450812009-10-19T12:49:20.968-05:002009-10-19T12:49:20.968-05:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07140699052721002348noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9504231.post-73290854390239286482009-04-29T02:02:00.000-05:002009-04-29T02:02:00.000-05:00Ron, I have always enjoyed your art.
